Why PDRx?

PDRx™ Telemedicine Services

The creation of PhoneDOCTORx™ (PDRx) represented a significant advancement in telemedicine services for extended care facilities (ECF). PDRx uses patented techniques and processes from American Doctors Online (ADOL) to bring after-hours physician coverage to patients' bedside. Since 2005, PDRx has saved significant costs for participating ECFs by avoiding "bed-hold-days" when patients are transferred to the hospital. Additionally, PDRx helps patients avoid the discomfort and emotional distress of a transfer by ambulance to the ED and increases overall satisfaction for both patients and clinical staff of the ECFs.

Patented, Innovative Telehealth Services

  • PDRx physicians serve as after-hours covering physicians for the patient's primary care physician (PCP)
  • Patients and nurses have face-to-face, real-time access to Board Certified physicians via videoconference technologies
  • PDRx physicians have access to patient medical records, which allows for informed decisions

Case Study

An 85-year-old female with a fever of 103.5° complained of a cough and mild shortness of breath. The family was concerned she’s not been as alert and active as usual. The nurse called PDRx and requested a telemedicine visit. After reviewing the patient's medical history, medications, and allergies, the physician evaluated the patient via telemedicine. Based on the vital signs and lung exam, the visual examination, and the patient’s medical history, the physician diagnosed the patient with pneumonia and was safe to be managed at the nursing home rather than requiring a trip to the ED. An order was placed for antibiotics and Tylenol. The order was sent to the nursing home along with a progress note for the patient's PCP.

Physicians and all Medical Call Center staff also follow procedural policies that assure a consistent process for interacting with the ECF staff and patients and the provision of high-quality care.
